Makeup…. It can either be really exciting or really daunting. There are so many options and so many brands. Products for oily skin, products for dry skin. Highlight, blush, bronzer, and contour. Eyeshadow brushes, face brushes, and sponges. There are so many options to choose from. One thing is for certain, once you start buying, the cost can add up. If you love makeup the way I do, you’re always looking for great products at affordable prices. After all, you don’t have to spend a fortune to look good. But if you’re new to makeup and don’t really know where to begin, sometimes it helps to have a little guidance so that you can have a starting point. So, I sat down and compiled a list of some of my favorite drug store must haves. Things I would recommend for anyone to try.
Foundation –
Maybelline Superstay Full Coverage Foundation – My personal favorite. Great for skin on the oilier side and if you want a more matte finish. Lasts all day with great coverage. Great range of shades.
Loreal Infallible Fresh Wear 24Hr Foundation – Great for dry skin. Leaves a more dewy natural finish. Comes in about 30 shades. There is also a matte formula available in the brand as well.
Concealer –
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer – Recently expanded their line to include darker shades. This concealer can work for anyone. It goes on really sheer but is also really buildable. So, if you would like a more full coverage, you can add more on and still blend it out for a seamless finish.
Mascara –
Loreal Lash Paradise – I like this mascara better than any high-end mascara that I have tried and, trust me, I have tried a lot. If you are really looking to pack on the drama and the volume, this is the one for you. The more coats you apply, the more volume you get. It is a wet formula, so it is probably better to use this if you have thicker lashes that aren’t easily weighed down. This line even offers a millennium pink primer to amp up the thickness and volume. Only downside is that there may be a little fall out by the end of the day.
Loreal Unlimited Mascara – This is a much drier formula so, it is great for very fine lashes and won’t weigh them down. The wand design is what makes this mascara even cooler. The wand bends so you can get close to the base of your lash with ease. The bristles are small and separated helping to keep the mascara from clumping. It stays on all day and all night with little to no fallout. Only downside about this mascara is that it dries quickly so, you have to work quickly if you want to add on several coats.
Lip Color –
Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink – These I LOVE!!! If you want a lip color that will last all day long, whether you eat or drink, this is the lip product for you. These colors do not budge. There is a decent color selection with various shades of nudes. You will want to make sure that you condition your lips before applying because, even though it isn’t the driest matte formula I have tried, it is on the dry side. When you want to take the lip color off, be sure to use some form of petroleum jelly to loosen it up before you wipe it off.
NYX Butter Gloss – These glosses go on so nicely and lay on top of other colors beautifully. They are very inexpensive and come in a nice range of colors.
Blush –
Milani – I know you’re thinking that’s just a brand name but, honestly, all of the Milani blushes are pretty awesome. The powder blush gives a great flush of color, and the baked blushes pack a lot of power. There is even a new liquid blush out that I haven’t tried but, if it is anything like their other blush products, it shouldn’t disappoint.
Of course, this is just a started point. These are only suggestions to help you get started. There are so many products out there to choose from. The fun part about makeup is trying new things and, the best part about drug products is that they are inexpensive, so you experiment with lots of things and build your own list of favorites. Just have fun with it!!!
